Safe travels during the holidays: How does ISO 39001 support road safety improvement?

Holidays are just around the corner. Let's take a closer look at the management system that supports road safety not only during summer travels.

Holidays are a time of joy, relaxation, and travel. Millions of people take trips by car, bus, or motorcycle to explore new places and spend time with family and friends. However, every journey carries certain risks, and road safety is a priority, especially during peak tourist seasons. A few days ago, we conducted a survey asking our followers about their preferred mode of transportation for holiday travel. The vast majority, 52%, indicated that their first choice is a car, while 29% prefer airplanes, and 19% opt for trains. Ensuring road safety has been a priority for authorities not only in Poland but also across Europe for many years. Supporting these efforts, the ISO 39001 standard has become an invaluable tool in improving road safety.

Guidelines for effective road traffic management

The ISO 39001 standard, which underpins the Road Traffic Safety Management System (RTSMS), is based on international guidelines for effectively managing road safety. It provides a comprehensive system that encompasses all key aspects of road safety, offering coherent and effective frameworks for organizations and institutions responsible for managing road traffic.

One of the main objectives of ISO 39001 is to identify potential road hazards and take appropriate actions to eliminate or minimize them. By analyzing data on road accidents, road conditions, and driver behaviors, organizations can better understand risk factors and plan actions to minimize these risks and improve road safety.

However, ISO 39001 is not just a tool for preventing road accidents. It also provides a framework for the continuous improvement of processes related to road traffic safety. Through systematic analysis of results, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing corrective measures, organizations can continuously raise the level of road safety.

ISO 39001 also promotes education and awareness regarding road safety. Through driver training, social campaigns, and informational activities, organizations can encourage more responsible behaviors on the road and promote a safety culture that is crucial for reducing the number of road accidents.

Benefits for all road users

Implementing ISO 39001 brings numerous benefits for all road users. For drivers, this means safer journeys and a lower risk of accidents; for companies, it means reduced costs associated with road accidents and reputational benefits; and for society, it means an overall increase in safety and quality of life.

Therefore, the ISO 39001 standard plays a significant role in improving road safety, supporting the efforts of organizations, local authorities, and society as a whole in creating a safer and more sustainable road environment for all users. When planning holiday trips, it is worth considering the steps taken to ensure road safety and how the ISO 39001 standard can contribute to our safety and comfort while traveling.
